A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the police following a vehicle accident on the N14 outside Olifantshoek that claimed the lives of seven people and left nine others injured.

A CASE of culpable homicide is being investigated by the police following a vehicle accident on the N14 outside Olifantshoek that claimed the lives of seven people and left nine others injured.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said the accident took place on March 1, at around midday.

According to preliminary reports, a construction vehicle was en route to Olifantshoek when it encountered an abnormal load approaching and it attempted to pull over to the side of the road. Tragically, the construction vehicle collided with another truck that had pulled over next to the road.

Masegela said the construction vehicle was carrying a total of 16 occupants, including the driver.

The police reported seven fatalities on the scene, while nine others sustained injuries. Emergency responders airlifted the injured to hospital for urgent medical attention.

The truck driver did not sustain any injuries.
