THE MEMORIAL service for Peter Egli will be held at Cheers Pub and Grill at 3pm today. Egli, 73, passed away during the early hours of May 11.
Egli was a well-known chef who came to South Africa in 1969 and worked in various popular restaurants in Johannesburg before moving to Kimberley in 1978 as an executive head chef.
He catered for former president PW Botha, former foreign minister Pik Botha and television celebrities.
He also worked at the Kimberley Sun, Hotel Kimberlite, Pembury Lodge and Kalahari Lodge, where his oxtail was a popular speciality.
He also trained trainee chefs and hotel school trainees.
Egli leaves his wife Sue, daughter Elizabeth and grandson Benjamin.
The memorial service is open to members of the public.
