THE SA Police Service stated that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) was investigating allegations involving a 46-year-old SAPS Lieutenant-Colonel who was implicated in the rape of a minor in De Aar on August 12.

The acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, and management condemned any form of criminality within the ranks of the organisation, especially crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups.

“Police officials are not above the law and it is expected of each member to lead by example,” Ngubelanga added.
