John-Ross Henderson, the 38-year-old director of Capital Guard Security, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Kimberley businessman Jayson Afrique and the attempted murder of Afrique’s wife, while offering to pay R5,000 bail.
THE DIRECTOR of Capital Guard Security, John-Ross Henderson, 38, has offered to pay bail of R5,000 if he is released from custody.
Henderson is accused of the murder of Kimberley businessman Jayson Afrique and the attempted murder of Afrique’s wife outside their home in New Park on July 31.
Henderson pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Kimberley Magistrate’s court this week.
Magistrate GS Plaatje ruled that the murder was a Schedule 6 offence, where the State motivated that it was a premeditated murder.
“The accused had allegedly tried to stop the deceased while he was driving in his vehicle. During the second encounter, he allegedly shot the deceased with a firearm.”
Henderson’s legal representative, advocate Celeste Nameka, pointed out that her client’s continued incarceration would prevent him from paying his employees’ salaries as well as the maintenance of his four children aged 19, 13, eight and three years old.
She indicated that none of the children’s mothers were employed and relied upon her client as being the sole provider.
Nameka stated that her client did not know the identity of the State witnesses.
“He will not interfere with the investigation or any witnesses. The State can add bail conditions,” she recommended.
The case continues this week.
