THE POLICE in Upington are continuing with the search for five-year-old Le-Virno Van Wyk who went missing on May 31.

Upington police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said Van Wyk was last seen playing with his cousin and friend after school near the railway behind Skierlik squatter camp in Louisvaleweg before he was seen running on the railway towards the veld.

“The search was instituted immediately in the area after the boy was reported missing, but has not been found yet.”

Masegela added that resources and manpower from provincial and district level would be brought in to find the boy.

“Information on any new developments will be communicated.”

The acting district commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu district, Colonel Peet Coetzee, on Monday reassured the community that the police were doing everything in their power to locate the boy.

He requested the community not to disseminate unverified information on social media.

Coetzee acknowledged and thanked everyone involved in the search including the community, non-governmental organisations and government departments.

Anyone with information that can assist is requested to contact the commander of the Upington Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, Captain Koos van den Heever, on 0823020442 or alternatively on the standby number 0823304478.
