A PROVINCIAL church service against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) was held at the Mayibuye Multi-purpose Centre in Galeshewe on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said spiritual leaders from the Christian, Muslim and Rasta communities opened the service with prayers.

“The SAPS members were encouraged with a sermon by Pastor Marion Ndjavire, while the SAPS band rendered powerful praise and worship songs,” said Kock.

“Chaplain Moseki brought intercessory prayers addressing moral transformation and upliftment, GBVF, ethical awareness, safety and substance abuse.”

Kock added that the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, took a strong stance against the scourge of GBVF and thanked spiritual leaders and community members for taking up the fight against these acts.

The MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nomandla Bloem, encouraged members to pledge their support for victims and survivors of GBVF.
