The South African Police Service celebrated 50 years of women being employed in the police service.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said police officials from different stations attended the commemoration at the Zwelintlanga Fatman Mgcawu district on Friday.

Colonel Noluthando Mavango from the ZF Mgcawu district legal services stated that the first women to join the ranks 50 years ago, unlocked the doors for other women in the organisation.

“It was not an easy journey for women in a male dominated organisation where they suffered inequality, discrimination, constantly being undermined and being questioned for being in high positions. The women in this organisation continued to push boundaries, overcome obstacles and have proven that women do not belong in the kitchen.”
