SISHEN Iron Ore Company Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT), in partnership with Blossom Care Solutions, recently handed over 5,500 sanitary products to 15 schools in the Northern Cape.

The recipient schools are Pako Middle School, KS Shuping High School, Tongwane Middle School, Kopano Middle School, Lesedi High School, Relekile Primary School, Vlakfontein Primary School, Maikaielelo Primary School, Deben Primary School, Sishen Intermediate School, Agang Thuto Primary School, Ratang Thuto High School, Dwaalboom Primary School, Tswelopele Primary School and Northam Comprehensive School.

The CEO of the SIOC-CDT, Vusani Malie, said that it was concerning that an estimated 30 percent of young girls stayed away from school when they did not have access to basic sanitary products.

“The partnership with Blossom Care Solutions has seen the delivery of 5,500 sanitary products along with education aimed at providing our young women with a greater understanding and knowledge on menstrual health in its entirety,” said Malie.

The managing director of Blossom Care Solutions, Shamiela Sarlie, added that as a mission-critical social enterprise, they employed locals and women to create jobs for the community, combat poverty and contribute towards youth development.
