THE SALVATION Army Galeshewe Corps men’s fellowship group, together with church members, handed out warm meals, bread and soup to unemployed and homeless city residents on July 22.
Benton Sithebe from the Salvation Army said the soup programme was aimed at helping the less fortunate.
“We also want to change the perception and image that is created around men – who are always associated with abuse and negative things – to take back our position in the community as protectors and providers.”
He said meals were distributed at four-way stops on the Douglas road, in the parking lot in the CBD at McDonald’s, at the Technical High School crossing, at Pick n Pay Rhodesdene and at the crossing at Riviera Spar.
“We managed to feed 600 people and put a smile on their faces,” said Sithebe.
He thanked the owner of Party and More, Antonella Poone, for her support towards fighting poverty and creating a better society.
