SEOCHOARENG Home for the Elderly in Galeshewe has been given a new lease on life by the SA Army, which refurbished the home and installed a ceiling.
SA Army spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lisa Sipriano said that the renovations started in May after funds were raised from private donors and individuals from the SA Army.
“A team of engineers, electricians, carpenters, bricklayers and plumbers from the SA Army who possess a wide range of skills worked their magic in giving the dilapidated home a facelift,” said Sipriano.
“The conditions at the home had an unsettling effect for the elderly, as the windows were broken, the roof was leaking and there was no ceiling. This posed a perpetual nightmare for the occupants.”
Sipriano added that the home was adopted by Lieutenant-General Mbatha during a charity golf day event.
“This has become an annual sporting event in Kimberley to raise funds to improve the lives of various communities.”
Sipriano said that the facility would be unveiled by the chief of the SA Army on October 13.
“During the function, certificates will be handed over to all organisations and individuals who contributed towards this project.”
Sipriano added that they would host an army recruitment drive at the AR Abass Stadium from October 9 to 14.
“The military skills development system career expo will offer information to Grade 12 pupils between the ages of 18-22 years on available career opportunities at the army. There will also be a display of military equipment.
“The army command council cadre conference will be held in Kimberley where commanders will be afforded an opportunity to deliberate on crucial matters.”
