RADIO Teemaneng Stereo (RTS FM) announced the death of its station manager Garth Damerell on Saturday June 5.

General Secretary of the RTS FM board of directors BM Isaacs said Damerell was the fourth and longest serving station manager of RTS FM in Kimberley.

She said Damerell joined Radio Teemaneng as a presenter in 2002 and became the station manager in 2004.

“He provided exemplary leadership that enabled RTS FM to advance from being a station that served Frances Baard, to a widely acclaimed and highly honoured institution that gave strategic leadership to the province and the country. He was instrumental in building strong local stakeholder relationships and enhancing the reputation of community radio in the Northern Cape.”

Isaacs stated that he would be remembered for his vigorous debates and inputs at conferences and summits.

“He served on the provincial structure as the National Community Radio Forum (NCRF) provincial chairperson and a member of the national board that represents over 150 community radio stations in South Africa.”

She extended condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

“We know RTS FM and the community of Frances Baard will be joined by countless others around the country in mourning the loss of this extraordinarily inspiring man.”
