THE ROTARY Club of Kimberley, under the leadership of president Mary-Anne Daubermann, recently organised an inspiring and productive “Youth Brainstorming” session.

The event brought together a diverse group of 45 enthusiastic younsters who represented various local institutions, including the Interact clubs of Kimberley Girls’ High, Northern Cape High and St Patrick’s CBC and the Sol Plaatje University Rotaract Club.

The session commenced with a thought-provoking video presentation by Richard Jones, chair of the Satellite E-Club. The video shed light on a collaborative initiative called the “Menstrual Cup” programme, which is being undertaken in partnership with the Carrol Creek Rotary Club in the United States.

The video served as an inspiring example of how Rotary clubs can address pertinent social issues, encouraging attendees to think creatively about potential projects in their local community.

Following the video presentation, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the participants engaged in a general discussion. The Interactors and Rotactors actively shared their ideas and brainstormed potential projects to undertake in the future.

The range of topics discussed was extensive, reflecting the breadth of interests and concerns of the young individuals present.

Among the notable topics were the donation of school shoes, support for victims of gender-based violence, assistance for disabled and elderly individuals in need of housing, mental health initiatives in schools and cancer awareness campaigns, among others.

The session was marked by a genuine spirit of collaboration and a collective desire to make a positive impact on society. The attendees showed remarkable enthusiasm, offering valuable insights and showcasing their commitment to improving their community.

To celebrate the productive brainstorming session and foster a sense of camaraderie among the participants, the Rotary Club of Kimberley provided an abundant supply of hot dogs and cool drinks. This informal gathering allowed the young individuals to interact and further exchange ideas, strengthening the connections forged during the brainstorming session.

Daubermann expressed her gratitude towards the attendees for their active participation and passion for community service. She emphasised the importance of empowering youth and providing them with platforms to express their ideas, contribute to meaningful projects, and shape their communities for the better.

Daubermann also commended Richard Jones and the Satellite E-Club for their dedication to social causes and for inspiring others through their impactful initiatives.

The success of the “Youth Brainstorming” session serves as a testament to the Rotary Club of Kimberley’s commitment to fostering youth engagement and empowering the next generation of leaders.
