ROODEPAN SAPS detectives successfully tracked down and arrested 24 wanted suspects as part of an intensive operation this week targeting property-related and contact crimes.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock explained that on October 3 a dedicated team of detectives from the Roodepan police station, under the leadership of Captain Deon Rheeder, embarked on a suspect tracing operation. The primary focus of the initiative was to apprehend individuals involved in serious crimes such as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), common assault, theft, housebreaking, theft out of motor vehicles, robbery, and malicious damage to property.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kock confirmed that the 24 suspects had been on the run from law enforcement for varying periods. Despite their efforts to evade arrest, they were all located and apprehended at their respective residences in Roodepan and surrounding areas.

The suspects are slated to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon, where they will answer for their alleged crimes.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kock noted that the operation formed part of the broader law enforcement strategy under Operation Shanela, a high-density crime-fighting initiative led by the SAPS.

The tracing and arrest of wanted suspects is one of the key components of this initiative, and the police have reassured the public that these operations will continue without interruption to ensure the safety and security of residents.
