A HOME for the elderly in Hopetown has confirmed that several of its residents, as well as a number of staff members, have tested positive for Covid-19.

The chairperson of the trust of Silwerhof Home for the Elderly, Madeleine Gerrits, said the results of the tests had been received by the home on Monday.

It is believed that around half of the 23 residents at the home have tested positive, as well as some staff members.

“The manager, Mrs Stols, has confirmed that the residents who have tested positive will be placed in quarantine at the local hospital,” Gerrits said.

Gerrits added that the Department of Health’s protocols for the management of Covid-19 were being strictly followed by the management and trust.

“Although all safety precautions were adhered to, the pandemic has unfortunately hit us also. We wish all those affected a speedy and full recovery.”

Almost all the affected residents are over the age of 70.

According to Gerrits, the condition of all the patients is currently satisfactory and no one is on ventilation at this stage.
