Concern that there is not enough police manpower to enforce the Covid-19 lockdown.

COMMUNITY members in Rietvale and Motswedimosa are walking around the streets of Ritchie, where concern has been raised that there is not enough police manpower to enforce the Covid-19 lockdown.

Members of the public were seen standing in queues at the ATM and outside the only shop that was operating, at the entrance to Ritchie.

An old age grant beneficiary, who was slightly inebriated, stated that he was on his way to collect his Sassa grant.

Community members indicated that they had to travel to Kimberley or Modderrivier to purchase their groceries.

In several other Northern Cape towns, the lockdown has also been shrugged off by residents, who are out and about and walking around the streets.

In Renosterberg, community members reportedly burnt tyres to prevent the police from entering the town to enforce the lockdown.

The police were also reportedly asked to assist with enforcing the lockdown in Colesberg.
