THE THREE SBV security guards who were injured during a cash-in-transit heist that took place along the R31 near Lerato Park on Friday are still receiving medical treatment in hospital.

SBV Group CEO Mark Barrett stated that a fourth SBV security official was fatally injured during the incident where explosives were used to gain access to the money in the security vehicle.

“The truck was ambushed by several assailants who used high-powered weapons and explosives. Three crew members were injured during the attack and remain in hospital.”

SBV Security is offering a R1 million reward for the successful arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

Barrett said the SBV leadership observed a moment of silence in commemorating the deceased on Friday morning. “We encouraged our teams and centres to do the same to pay tribute to him – a brave hero who lost his life in the line of duty.

“On behalf of the entire organisation, I wish to extend our sincere condolences to the deceased’s family and his colleagues at the Kimberley centre. Our thoughts are with our team members and their families for the trauma sustained. We also wish our injured colleagues a full and speedy recovery.”

Barrett added that the company would make all necessary resources available to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We will work closely with the authorities to apprehend these criminals. We will never close a case until it is solved. We will make sure that the criminals involved in this senseless and violent attack are apprehended and that justice is served.”

The police are investigating cases of cash-in-transit robbery, murder and attempted murder.
