LONGLANDS residents closed the R31 near the four-way crossing in Barkly West on Tuesday as they have not had any electricity for several days.

The irate residents indicated that no explanations were forthcoming as to why their power had been cut.

Traffic was obstructed and only emergency vehicles are being allowed to pass through.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the road was opened again on Tuesday afternoon after a group on disgruntled community members gathered on the R31 near Longlands.

“The road is open, and traffic is flowing normally. Members of Kimberley Public Order Police are on the scene and monitoring the situation. No arrests have been made. The SAPS will continue to monitor the situation,” Ehlers said.
