Pupil slapped with ban for assault on referee

A PUPIL from Daniëlskuil High School who plays for the Under-15 rugby team pleaded guilty to assaulting a match official during a rugby game that was played between Daniëlskuil and Kathu recently.

A viral video circulated on social media showing how an assistant coach, spectators, and two pupils from the school assaulted the referee.

The formal hearing into the incident was held in Kimberley by the GriquaLand West Rugby Union on Thursday night.

According to the Chairman of the Griqualand-West Rugby Referee Society, Kat Swanepoel, it was decided to ban the pupil for 24 rugby matches. The hearing for the other pupil involved in the incidentt was postponed.
