A GRADE 10 pupil from a school in Batlharos Village, Kuruman, has died after being gunned down on the school premises yesterday.
While details surrounding the incident were yesterday still sketchy, the Northern Cape Department of Education yesterday confirmed the shooting and death of the pupil, during school hours, adding that the alleged suspect handed himself over to police shortly after the incident.
“The Northern Cape Department of Education is in shock over the death of a Grade 10 pupil from Makgolokwe Middle School in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District. It is still unclear what transpired or triggered the incident. The alleged perpetrator handed himself over to the SAPS,” said department spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi, yesterday confirmed that a case of murder has been opened in Batlharos after a 17-year-old boy was shot at a local school.
“The victim died on the scene. The 38-year-old suspect handed himself over to the police and the circumstances surrounding the incident is being investigated,” Mooi said.
