THE office of the Public Protector have successfully secured and handed over the title deed to a proud home owner Amos Maxongo from Galeshewe, for his Military Veteran House.

That is after the completion of a successful investigation relating to allegations of improper conduct and maladministration against the Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta) in the Northern Cape.

In this case, functionaries of the department were accused of undue delays in the issuing of the title deed.

Maxongo said that he waited for seven years for Coghsta to issue him with the title deed.

His journey started in 2017, when he applied for a Military Veteran House under the Military Veterans Housing Development Programme, for which the application was approved.

In September 2017, the former Minister of the Department of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu officially handed him the keys of the house that was built on Erf 38041.

He was shocked when Coghsta informed him that the house belonged to someone else with the name “John Doe”, who instead wanted his house to be built in Platfontein.

Cosghsta further informed him that John Doe had signed an affidavit to the effect that he was relinquishing his rights to the house and signing them over to the complainant.

Coghsta also assisted him in signing an affidavit that stated that he would be receiving the house, and that he would receive his title deed. However the department still delayed in issuing him with a title deed.

The office of the Public Protector expressed that it is pleased with the cooperation of the department during the investigation.
