THE KIMBERLEY police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a police constable allegedly crashed a police vehicle into a brick fence and damaged another vehicle.
Residents apparently reported a severely damaged police vehicle which was abandoned near a veld on the corner of Waterloo and Trommel streets.
According to the reports, the driver of the vehicle parked it on the corner and left.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock said the police officer, who is stationed at Galeshewe police station, was trying to avoid a pothole when the incident occurred.
“On Friday, April 30, 2021 at about 1:30pm, the female constable was travelling down Green Street and lost control of the vehicle after she allegedly swerved out for a pothole. The police vehicle crashed into a brick fence and also damaged a BMW that was travelling in the opposite direction. The constable apparently left the vehicle in the next street and managed to stop another police vehicle before returning to the scene. The driver of the BMW was travelling alone and was uninjured. The police official was however transported to hospital for shock and medical treatment,” said Kock.
Kock said the investigation into the matter continues and all internal police processes are being followed.
