Prieska cops arrest 8 suspects in sting operation

THE POLICE in Prieska arrested eight men for various alleged criminal activities and confiscated suspected stolen goods during a sting operation on the weekend.

The arrests were made after the police followed up on information received.

It is believed that the confiscated goods were stolen during housebreakings and some of the arrested suspects were charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that among the confiscated goods were a laptop, a DVD player, an amplifier and power tools.

“The suspects are aged between 20 and 63 years old and will be appearing in court soon,” said Kock.

He added that further information led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man for the possession of tik worth R300.

The Pixley ka Seme cluster commander, Brigadier Nomana Adonis, commended the Prieska station commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Rendani Ndou, and his officers for the “continued, unabated efforts in addressing crime in the area”.

The police also issued a stern warning to community members that dealing in stolen goods is a crime.

Community members were also urged to be “responsible” and to avoid buying stolen goods.
