A BOTTLE store employee in Prieska was arrested on the weekend after he was caught selling liquor to the public.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the 36-year-old suspect was caught “red handed” contravening the Disaster Management Act regulations under Level 4 of the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

He said that members of the Prieska Visible Policing unit noticed suspicious activity at the liquor outlet in Stewart Street while they were conducting crime-prevention patrols in the CBD.

“The suspect was found in possession of cash, presumed to be the proceeds from the illegal sale of liquor. He was arrested on Saturday, July 24, at approximately 5.30pm.”

Tawana added that the suspect is expected to appear before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of dealing in liquor illegally.
