The incident reportedly occurred when the driver of one of the vehicles, an Audi, apparently tried to overtake another car and lost control of the vehicle.

It is believed that the occupants of all three cars were travelling from Kimberley to Hartswater to attend a meeting, where the premier was expected to meet with ANC regional officials from the Phokwane sub-region.

Eyewitnesses indicated that no injuries were reported.
