THE PREMIER of the Northern Cape, Dr Zamani Saul, together with the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nomandla Bloem, will launch the annual Festive Season Road Safety Campaign in Upington today.

Department spokesperson Patsy Alley said the aim of the campaign is to clamp down on illegal road practises as well as to encourage road safety.

“The campaign will see the elevation of road safety priorities through an intensified Arrive Alive Road Safety Campaign. The main pillars of road safety – which include no drinking and driving, promotion of daytime driving, vehicle roadworthiness and pedestrian safety – will be highlighted during the campaign,” said Alley.

Alley said the visibility of law enforcement agencies will also be strengthened as 30 new law enforcement vehicles will be handed over during the campaign.

“The launch will coincide with the handover of 30 new law enforcement vehicles – 25 sedans and five bakkies – that will be used to improve law enforcement visibility and compliance monitoring during the festive period and going forward,” she said.
