A MAN was arrested after the Postmasburg police found suspected illegal firearms in his possession.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomvuyo Makoloi said two handguns were found in the suspect’s possession.

“On November 29, 2021 the Postmasburg Crime Prevention team followed up on information regarding a male person who was allegedly in possession of illegal firearms. The team attended to the information with a search warrant and found a male person at Marantheng in Postmasburg. Two handguns were found hidden inside a laundry bucket,” said Makoloi.

“One of the firearms was reported as stolen in the Eastern Cape in 2016. The suspect was also found in possession of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) uniform. The suspect was charged with unlawful possession of firearms and will appear in the local magistrate’s court soon.

“The police will continue clamping down on the proliferation of firearms during the festive period,” added Makoloi.
