THE GALESHEWE District Court on Tuesday granted bail of R500 to Frans Dillon Morakile, 27, who was implicated in the armed robbery incident at the Mankurwane post office.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the accused was facing a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances after post office employees were accosted and threatened with firearms.

An amount of R230,000 was stolen during the robbery.

Senokoatsane said Morakile was arrested after he was found in possession of thousands of rand, together with the firearms that were used during the robbery.

“While delivering judgment on the bail application, the magistrate indicated that the State could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused would not attend his court hearings if he was granted bail. The magistrate did not believe that the accused posed any danger to the lives of the community members and pointed out that the accused had no previous or pending cases against him. He was released on R500 bail and was ordered not to interfere with the witnesses and to avoid being in the vicinity of the Mankurwane post office branch,” said Senokoatsane.

He added that the case was adjourned until September 6 for further investigation.
