THE POLICE and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) will stage a march in Kimberley on Friday, starting at 9am, as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

The march will proceed from the Telkom Tower in Long Street to the provincial office of the Department of Correctional Services in Du Toitspan Road.

Popcru provincial secretary Wycelift Mkontwano said that around 300 members from SAPS, prisons, and correctional services in the Northern Cape and Free State would participate. He assured that services would not be disrupted during the march.

“There will be members who will be on duty at correctional facilities and law enforcement institutions for the duration of the march against gender-based violence and femicide,” said Mkontwano.

He added that the march was part of a national campaign advocating for zero tolerance of sexual harassment, intimidation, gender-based violence and femicide, and workplace harassment, particularly when senior managers are involved.
