THE INDEPENDENT Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) will host a community outreach engagement at the tribal hall in Dithakong village in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District on Friday, starting at 10am.

IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said that the directorate is currently investigating several serious cases, including death in custody, rape by officers and assault cases that were reported at the Kuruman, Kathu, and Mothibistad police stations.

“The community engagement is intended to empower and educate communities about their rights should they find themselves at the receiving end of police criminality,” said Shuping.

He added that Ipid executive director Dikeledi Ntlatseng, together with Kgosi Kgotlaame Motshwarakgole of the Batlhaping ba-ga Motshwarakgole, as well as stakeholders including the SAPS and the Hawks, would also take part in the event.
