A DAGGA consignment with an estimated street value of over R145,000 was confiscated on the N14 during an intelligence-driven operation.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the Upington border police intercepted a truck that was en route to Namibia on Monday at around 9.30pm.

“According to information received, two male suspects boarded a truck in Kathu with dagga concealed in their luggage. A truck, which matched the description, was pulled over on the N14. It was transporting the suspects and dagga weighing 21.078 kilograms,” said Tawana.

He added that the suspects were expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of possession of dagga.

The provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the team for apprehending the suspects and for their “relentless efforts in eradicating drugs from the streets”.
