THE WARRENTON police and the SAPS Search and Rescue team are still searching for two men that went missing in the Vaal River near Warrenton on Sunday.

It is believed that the two men entered the river along with a spiritual healer, as part of a spiritual ritual, at about 4pm on Sunday

The incident follows several warnings from the police urging community members to refrain from swimming in the flooded river.

The river has been experiencing flooding following the recent heavy rains.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the men were reportedly swept away during the ritual.

“According to their spiritual leader, the river allegedly pulled them in during the ritual. The SAPS Search and Rescue team is busy combing the Vaal River for the two missing men,” said Kock.

The police have requested anyone with information that could assist them to contact Sergeant Bakang Diphoko on 082 728 8804.
