THE POSTMASBURG police have opened an inquest following the deaths of two men who were apparently found dead inside a cellphone tower in Newtown, Postmasburg, while a third man is in a critical condition in hospital.

The discovery was made on Sunday at about 10am when community members heard the alarm go off at the internet tower.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the community members found the men inside the tower and contacted the police.

“It is alleged that the one deceased is a 39-year-old technician who responded to a fault at the cellphone tower. The second deceased is reported to be the 44-year-old tower security guard who accompanied him,” said Kock

“The third male, who is unknown, is currently critical in hospital.”

Kock said the cause of the deaths is unknown at this time and autopsies will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
