NORTHERN Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela reported that Operation Shanela in the ZF Mgcawu District has delivered significant results over the past week.

A swift response by members of the Kakamas SAPS on September 25 led to the arrest of two women caught with a large stash of dagga.

Acting on a tip-off, the officers searched the suspects, aged 32 and 40, who were carrying oversized bags. Inside, they discovered dagga with an estimated street value of R603,750. Both suspects were promptly arrested for dealing in dagga.

In another major sweep on September 27, the police raided illegal liquor outlets in Paballelo and Rosedale. Liquor valued at R11,000 was confiscated, and fines totalling R1,500 were issued.

Sergeant Masegela said that the district’s police management praised the ongoing dedication of officers to tackle crime head-on and keep communities safe.
