THE KIMBERLEY police are investigating after the bodies of two people, believed to be a couple, were found at separate locations on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the body of a 42-year-old woman was found with severe head and facial injuries next to a bakkie on the R31 on Sunday.

Kock added that further investigation led the police to the owner of the bakkie, a 55-year-old man, who was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home in Galeshewe.

“The Kimberley SAPS are investigating a murder following the discovery of the body of a 42-year-old female on Sunday, October 9, 2022 near the R31 close to Kimberley. The body was found next to a white Isuzu bakkie and the deceased had severe head and facial injuries,” said Kock.

“Further investigation led police to the owner of the bakkie, a 55-year-old male.

“The 55-year-old male owner was found deceased at his residential premises in Galeshewe, with a gunshot wound to his head. The Galeshewe SAPS are investigating an inquest into the death of the male.”

It is believed that the owner of the bakkie was a police officer who served in Kimberley.

The police, however, refused to confirm or deny the claim.

Details were also not given on whether the bakkie was state-owned or whether the firearm used was an SAPS service pistol.

Anyone with information that can help the police in their investigations is urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Thapelo Segoje of Kimberley SAPS on 082 302 0407 or Detective Sergeant Isaac Motladi of Galeshewe SAPS on 082 469 0546.
