Police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a white Audi Q7 crashed into a white Ford bakkie at the intersection of Silson and Schmidtsdrift roads on Tuesday morning.

Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, who was a passenger in the Audi Q7, was not injured during the accident while the driver of the Ford bakkie sustained neck and head injuries.

A VIP protector, who was travelling in the Audi Q7, received medical attention at Gariep Mediclinic Hospital following the incident.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, yesterday said the circumstances surrounding the incident were not known at this stage. The incident is being investigated.

He added that two people were treated at local hospitals for minor injuries sustained during the incident that took place on Tuesday at about 11am.

The response from the police regarding the accident that appeared in Wednesday’s edition of the DFA where the spokesperson was quoted as saying that the matter “was not being investigating in our policing precinct” was, in fact, in response to another media enquiry regarding an accident that took place on the road to Boshof about 40 kilometres out of Kimberley.
