Members of the Rietfontein community were urged to join hands with the police in order to get the upper hand in the fight against crime.
MEMBERS of the community were urged to join hands with the police and to join structures within the SAPS in order to get the upper hand in the fight against crime.
The call was made by the station commander of Rietfontein, Captain Mthuthuzeli Block, during a Youth Day celebration in the town on June 17.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said the SAPS in Rietfontein, in conjunction with the local municipality and Rietfontein Combined School, held a sports event in celebration of Youth Day 2023.
Block addressed the community on gender-based violence and femicide and the effects of substance abuse in the scourge of GBVF, especially among young people.
The event also saw a soccer match between the SAPS and a municipal team, with the police crowned the winners on the day.
