FIVE suspects were arrested after information was received about a plot to blow up an ATM in Hotazel.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi said that the arrests were made in the early hours of yesterday morning.

“At about 3am on Wednesday morning the police in Kuruman acted swiftly on information that foiled an armed robbery that was to occur in Hotazel.”

Mooi said the Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Hawks had received crime intelligence information about armed suspects driving a Quantum and who were planning to bomb an ATM in Hotazel.

“The information was operationalised and the said vehicle was spotted and pulled off the road.”

Mooi added that the TRT members approached the vehicle and the driver ran away while the remaining five male suspects were searched.

“The members confiscated explosive devices, three pistols, of which one was a toy, and gloves that were found in the suspects’ possession.”

The five suspects, aged between 19 and 31 years old, were immediately arrested for unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and explosives and are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court soon.
