Police arrest suspected drug dealer in Kathu

A 29-YEAR-old man was arrested in Kathu after he was found in possession of dagga and mandrax with an estimated street value R6,500.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said that sergeants Eiman and Mosesane and constables Jantjies and Moleme from the Kathu Crime Prevention group arrested the suspected drug dealer during a stop-and-search operation that was conducted in the vicinity of Hendrick van Eck Road in Kathu on Monday, at about 11.40pm.

“The police members found the 29-year-old male in possession of 189 ziplock bags filled with dagga and mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R6,500. He was also found with cash amounting to R710 that is alleged to be the proceeds of the sale of drugs,” said Gamieldien.

She added that the suspect would appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of possession of drugs.
