The 5-year-old boy went missing from Schmidtsdrift on Thursday.

THE CAMPBELL police have requested the assistance of the public in locating a five-year-old boy, Costa Gideon, from Schmidtsdrift who went missing on Thursday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said the boy went missing after he accompanied his father, Samba Daniel, and his mother, Lapepe Gideon, into the veld when they took cattle to graze.

“It is believed that at approximately 10am on May 21, 2020, Costa accompanied his parents into the veld when they took the cattle to graze. The father returned home at about 5pm assuming the boy was with his mother. They then discovered that he was not with either of them and they immediately reported him missing at the Campbell police station,” said Gamieldien.

She said a search for the boy was immediately launched and several police units were dispatched to assist in the matter.

“The search resumed during the early hours of May 22, 2020 and additional assistance was called. The provincial Search and Rescue Team, the Kimberley Mounted unit, the Kimberley Airiwing and the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit (FCS) are searching for the boy.”

Gamieldien said the boy was last seen wearing black tracksuit pants, a white T-shirt with blue stripes and sandals.

She added that there was no photo available of the missing boy and urged anyone with information to contact the police.

“Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the boy can contact the provincial head of FCS, Brigadier Nicky Mills, on 082 371 6667 or 08600 10111. All information will be treated as confidential,” said Gamieldien.
