Well-known Kimberley resident, Pieter Els, has been involved in an accident that left his brand-new Ferrari 488 GTB, valued at R6.7 million, “completely written off”.

While the circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear and attempts to contact Els have been unsuccessful, information has revealed that the accident occurred in Cape Town early yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

It is believed that Els was travelling alone in the vehicle when he crashed into a concrete barrier on the N2 highway near the Cape Town International Airport at around 5 am. The road was apparently wet, following heavy rain in the Mother City.

The Ferrari, valued at around R6.7 million, which Els has owned for just more than a month, suffered extensive damage and, according to experts, has been “completely written off.”

Els apparently abandoned the vehicle after the crash and any did not sustain any serious injuries. He was, however, not available this morning to confirm his condition.

He has, however, apparently already inquired to his insurance company about a replacement vehicle.

A video of the wreck appeared in an online motoring publication, under the heading “ Ferrari crashes in Cape Town – not a good way to start your Wednesday morning” last night.
