THE NEW minimum wages for the private security sector, which come into effect on November 1, have been published by the Department of Labour.

In Kimberley, which falls into area 1 and 2, the monthly salary for an artisan will be R7 484. Clerical assistants will earn R3 730 during the first year of experience, R3 792 during the second year and R3 850 thereafter.

Clerks will earn R4 069 during the first year of experience, R4 325 during the second year, R4 549 during the third year of experience and R4 794 thereafter.

The driver of a light motor vehicle will earn
R3 925, a medium motor vehicle R4 207 and a heavy motor vehicle R4 392.

A general worker during the first six months service with the same employer will earn R3 053, and thereafter R3 154. A handyman will earn R4 343.

A security officer grade A will earn
R5 558, grade B R4 981 and grades C, D and E R4 377.

Employees not elsewhere specified will earn R3 771.

The maximum permissible working hours is 45 per week, with the exception of a control of communication centre operator and security officers where the maximum permissible working hours per week is 48.
