A SECTION of the N12 between Kimberley and Hopetown will be closed periodically next week in order for the bridge over the Orange River to be widened.
In a statement issued yesterday, the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) notified travellers in the Province that this construction work would require the daily closure of a stretch of the national road, between noon and 2pm, from Monday, June 19 to Friday, June 23.
According to Sanral, while motorists travelling from Kimberley toward Hopetown via the N12 have the option of utilising the N8 as an alternative route to connect with the N1 and then back onto the N12, the distance of the detour is of such a nature that it is not likely to save time.
“Motorists are asked to plan their trips accordingly, and where possible, rather extend their stopover in Kimberley and use the time to rest before continuing on their journey. From the other side, it is advisable to extend their stop in Hopetown, rather than sitting in a vehicle for up to two hours without moving,” said Kobus van der Walt, Sanral Western Region’s Manager.
