A TOTAL of 473,153 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered to qualifying people in the Northern Cape since the start of the vaccination programme in February this year.

Northern Cape Department of Health spokesperson Lebogang Majaha said on Monday that out of the total doses administered, 343,850 individuals had received at least one dose, while 283,116 people were fully vaccinated either with the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two-dose Pfizer vaccine.

“Individuals who have received at least one dose of the vaccine account for 34.8 percent of the Province’s target population (12 years and older), while 28.8 percent are fully vaccinated,” said Majaha.

The national Department of Health announced an additional 26 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the Northern Cape as of November 7, where the cumulative total in the Province currently stands at 92,615 positive cases.

The ZF Mgcawu District recorded the highest number of new infections with eight cases, followed by the John Taolo Gaetsewe District with seven, five cases in the Frances Baard District, four cases in Namakwa and two positive cases in the Pixley ka Seme.

No new Covid-19-related deaths were reported in the Province over the last 72 hours.

The total cumulative deaths in the Province remains at 2,317, while the total active cases currently stands at 1,570.

The Province’s average recovery rate is 96 percent, representing a cumulative total of 88,728 people who have recovered from Covid-19.
