A TOTAL of 116 wanted suspects were arrested during a tracing operation that was conducted by SAPS Detective teams across the Northern Cape on Monday.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien said the suspects were arrested for various contact and property-related crimes.

“The suspects were arrested for an assortment of crimes including assault common, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), attempted murder, robbery, theft and malicious damage to property. Detectives across the Province executed the tracing actions simultaneously. The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s court soon,” said Gamieldien.

“Major-General Lekehele indicated that perpetrators who fail to adhere to their bail conditions will be tracked and brought before court. Also those who commit gender-based violence will be dealt with harshly.”

Gamieldien added that the team was commended for the arrests.

“The provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the detectives for their remarkable and relentless efforts in bringing the perpetrators before court,” she said.
