Northern Cape RET member in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district Olebogeng Leserwane urged ANC members to join hands in protecting Zuma’s legal and constitutional rights.

THE Northern Cape Radical Economic Transformation is rallying all supporters to become friends of the court to appeal the Gauteng High Court ruling that ordered that former President Jacob Zuma should return to jail to complete his 15 year sentence for being in contempt of court where he refused to testify before the Zondo Commission.

In their application the DA, Helen Suzman Foundation and Afriforum argued that Zuma did not qualify for medical parole as he was not terminally ill or incapacitated as a result of illness, injury or disease, where articles were submitted of him meeting with Carl Niehaus and Dudu Myenyeni at Sibaya Casino as well as addressing a prayer meeting in October.

Zuma and the Department of Correctional Services will appeal the decision in the Supreme Court of Appeal.

Northern Cape RET member in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district, Olebogeng Leserwane, on Friday urged ANC members to join hands in protecting Zuma’s legal and constitutional rights.

“We call upon all progressive and revolutionary forces here at home and abroad to apply to the Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa (SCA) to become friends of this August court. We further invite all constitutional structures of the ANC from regions to provinces and the alliance, including the compromised ANC National Executive Committee to follow suit.”

He reminded how unrest and mayhem was unleashed in the country in July when Zuma was arrested.

“It resulted in a serious economic backlash. His arrest or re-incarceration without a charge or trial may lead to other catastrophic and disastrous actions that will be entirely blamed on the judiciary and a lack of foresight leadership by pretentious, spineless, puppet leaders in this country.”

He believed that the judiciary was being used by ANC factions to “settle political scores”.

“The former head of state is being shamed and subjected to abuse and harassment. This judgement did not come as a shock, we expected the same outcome. Since the forceful removal of President Zuma as the President of South Africa, he never enjoyed any form of justice in the courts of this country.

“‘Zuma Laws’ were doctored by a certain clique within the judiciary to find Zuma guilty irrespective of his legal or constitutional rights and/or any case brought forward by the Helen Suzman Foundation, Afriforum and the DA.”
