Northern Cape police arrest foreign national for murder of elderly woman

The Northern Cape SAPS Murder and Robbery unit apprehended a 33-year-old foreign national in connection with the murder of a 77-year-old woman at her home in Mothibistad.

THE NORTHERN Cape SAPS Murder and Robbery unit apprehended a 33-year-old foreign national in connection with the murder of a 77-year-old woman at her home in Mothibistad on August 22 last year.

According to provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam, the arrest was made on September 17, 2024, after the team, led by Detective Warrant Officer Patrick Dibebe, along with detective sergeants Mojalefa Ndubula and Tsholofelo Mogoje, followed up on information and traced the male suspect to the Barack Obama section near Mothibistad.

Sergeant Sam said the suspect is expected to appear in the Mothibistad Magistrate’s Court soon.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, praised the public for their co-operation in reporting criminal activity and commended the Murder and Robbery unit for their dedication and swift action in solving the case.
