Despite social media reports that four people have been nabbed for the veld fires ravaging the Province, police say nobody has been arrested.
POLICE in the Northern Cape have denied reports that four people have been arrested for allegedly starting several veld fires.
According to reports, circulating on social media, the four suspected arsonists were spotted in Jan Kempdorp.
It further stated that the suspects were apprehended in a gold Nissan and voice clips circulated on WhatsApp where members from the farming community were heard thanking everyone who assisted in the arrests of the suspects.
Free State police indicated that they had no information regarding the matter and referred media inquiries to the police in the Northern Cape.
Northern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, said none of their stations in the Jan Kempdorp area had registered such a matter.
“We inquired about the matter from the Jan Kempdorp, Warrenton, Boetsap and Windsorton police which are surrounding stations, but no case or arrests were made by the police,” said Kock.
