NO ARRESTS have been made yet in connection with an incident where a woman was raped by two men after she caught a metered taxi.

The incident took place on March 17 in Galeshewe.

The woman was reportedly too weak to walk to the police station following her ordeal.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said on Monday that the Galeshewe SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was investigating all leads at their disposal with the assistance of the public.

“It is alleged that the passenger, who is a 29-year-old Zimbabwean woman, was attending a family event in Galeshewe on Sunday, March 17 at around 1am,” said Sam.

“She contacted a local taxi cab to return home and en route the driver did not follow the correct route.”

He added that the woman became suspicious and jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

“The area was dark and she fell into a ditch. It is alleged that two unknown men followed her into the ditch, threatened her at knifepoint and raped her.

“No arrests have been made yet and investigations are continuing.”

Sam requested anyone with information that could assist the police with the case to contact Warrant Officer Aretha Claasen on 071 751 3184.

“All information will be handled confidentially,” Sam said.
