Newborn baby girl found abandoned in Kuruman veld

THE KURUMAN SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is investigating a case of child abandonment after a newborn baby girl was found alive in a veld in Mapoteng, Kuruman.

An 11-year-old boy made the discovery while he was herding goats on Saturday, October 23, at around 11am.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said the boy heard the baby crying in the veld.

“The boy went home and informed his mother, who reported the matter to the police,” said Letsapa. “They found a newborn baby girl alive and wrapped in plastic.

“The baby, who is currently in a healthy condition, was admitted to Kuruman hospital.”

Letsapa said that no arrest relating to the matter has been made yet.

The police have requested the community’s assistance in locating the mother of the baby.

Anyone with any information regarding the matter is also urged to come forward.
