THE SOUTH African Policing Union (Sapu) has raised concern over the increase in the commission of police killings and murders.

Sapu provincial spokesperson Blessing Tselane stated that these senseless killings devastated families, communities and members of the SAPS and the security sector at large.

He indicated that the newly-elected provincial Sapu office-bearers were committed to working with community policing forums and other organisations to prevent, combat and investigate crime, particularly police killings, murders, drugs, corruption, gender-based violence and other crimes that are crippling Northern Cape communities.

Tselane said the provincial office-bearers were also tasked with fostering harmonious working relationships between employers and employees in the policing sector, traffic and the Department of Correctional Services and to represent marginalised workers.

Sapu Northern Cape office-bearers:

Provincial chairperson – Verdi Khois Oliphant
